Teaching

ManchesterThe city of Manchester has an important place in the history of urban development and industrialisation, and continues to be a fascinating site for the investigation of complex architectural and urban design issues. Manchester is therefore a tremendous local socio-economic and historic context for the study of architecture - so it is no surprise that each year several students from all over the world come to Manchester to study architecture.

As a centre of excellence for architectural research, MARC aims to infuse its interdisciplinary research expertise into all aspects of its teaching activities. Our staff, ranging from lecturers to researchers and PGR students, contribute to the curriculum in a number of different ways across our BA, BArch and MA programmes. This includes delivering modules of taught lectures, holding workshops on specific themes of relevance to our research, arranging guest lectures, contributing to studio teaching and supervising student research projects.

All our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is provided through the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), a joint school between the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University and one of the top architecture schools in the UK. As an MSA student you will be registered at both universities, and will therefore be able to access an unrivalled set of resources.

Through the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) we offer you all the university training you need to become a fully qualified architect.

Our BA and BArch degree courses are validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and therefore provide exemption from the first two of the three stages you need to complete before becoming a qualified architect.

For more information see BA and BArch in Architecture (MSA website).

Postgraduate Studies (MA)

The course is aimed at architects, urban designers, planners and urbanists wishing to gain the intellectual, theoretical and practical knowledge and skills essential to understanding and shaping the future city.
