Arjun Kaicker, Foster & Partners.

Biography: Arjun Kaicker is an architect, partner and head of the Strategic Consultancy Group at Foster + Partners. The group analyse how architecture and interiors can most effectively fulfil the needs and aspirations of building occupants and users. Concentrating on the initial stages of the design process, Strategic Consultancy specialises in RIBA Work Stages A to C. This encompasses client needs appraisal, brief development and implementation of the design brief across a broad range of building types, from offices, schools and universities to hotels, civic buildings and masterplans. Over the past 8 years, he has worked on several of the practice's major projects, including Swiss Re in London, Deutsche Bank Place in Sydney, Hearst Headquarters in New York, the Masdar City development in Abu Dhabi and educational buildings for Imperial College London, Oxford University and Yale.

Synopsis: From Willis Faber in Ipswich and HSBC in Hong Kong, to Commerzbank, Swiss Re, Hearst and beyond Foster + Partners has been at the leading edge of office architecture. The right office building is a critical asset for a successful organisation, influencing staff recruitment and retention, information sharing and collaboration, and corporate culture and identity. The talk will draw from over 40 of the practice's office projects to show how design is influenced and advanced by globally changing ways of working, as well as by the unique needs and aspirations of businesses and their staff. The talk will outline some of the key influences on office building form and typology and consider the future of the genre.
