EASY-ECO Vienna Conference 2008 will focus on the institutional aspects of Sustainable Development evaluations as policy learning processes. Colin Kirkpatrick will give a presentation to an OECD Sustainability Assessment Workshop to be held in Amsterdam on 14-15 January 2008.
The presentation will review the problems and challenges in refining the Trade SIA methodology developed by the IARC and subsequently adopted by the European Commission for use in sustainability impact assessment (SIA) of trade negotiations (www.sia-trade.org).

This latest volume in the CRC Series on Competition, Regulation and Development (www.competition-regulation.org.uk) provides a comprehensive analysis of the principles and practice of regulatory impact assessment (RIA) in developed, developing and transition economies. The contributors reveal that RIA is being adopted by an increasing number of countries as a route to better regulation, but with varying degrees of success. The contributes to the literature on evidence-based decision making as part of the new public management and by rigorously examining thr principles of better regulation and the problem of application and adoption around the world, it is intended to contribute to better understanding of regulatory policy design and implementation.

Presentation of Final Report on Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) of the Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Area (EMFTA)
Clive George and Colin Kirkpatrick have presented the final report on the Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) for the Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Area in Brussels on 7 November. In the morning they will meet with the European Commission Steering Group and in the afternoon they will present the report findings and recommendations to a Civil Society Consultation meeting.
