ERSC/NERC ‘FIRES’ transdisciplinary seminar series
Julia McMorrow has been awarded £23,000 to run a transdisciplinary seminar series in the recent ESRC/NERC funding round on ecosystem services.
The series of four seminars is called ‘FIRES, Fire Interdisciplinary Research in Ecosystem Services: fire and climate change in UK moorlands and heaths’. It aims to establish a cross-cutting research agenda on the risk to UK moorland and heath ecosystem services posed by wildfires, including the role of managed fire and the impact of climate change.
The first seminar on the role of managed fire will be in Edinburgh in April 2008. Manchester will host two seminars; the second in June on wildfire and climate change and the third next year on forecasting and modelling wildfire. The final seminar on adaptive management will be held in the Peak District National Park. All the seminars will have strong representation from stakeholders.
The first steering group meeting took place in SED on 27 Sep 2007. Those interested in attending should contact Julia McMorrow. Postgraduates are especially welcome.
