Enterprise Development at Birmingham University Business School

An interactive workshop focusing on enterprise development, hosted by Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Birmingham University Business School, was faciliated by Dr Joanne Tippett of Manchester University. The workshop was attended by sixteen people from organizations as diverse as the Nottingham Building Society, Universities across the Midlands and Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited. Innovative Teaching & Training and Stakeholder Engagement workshops to launch Ketso

Supported by the Manchester Beacon for Public Engagement, Dr Joanne Tippet of Mnachester University hosted the public launch of Ketso, the hands-on kit for creative group work, at Manchester Museum on February 18th 2010. Over 100 participants from organisations as diverse as City Councils, the NHS, the Environment Agency, the Forestry Commission, Groundwork, northern universities and private companies attended experiential workshops, which focused on innovative teaching and training and stakeholder engagement.

Inception Meeting for European Climate Mitigation Project

This week, representatives from 15 EU regions are meeting in Hamburg to prepare for nine months of challenging workshops in which researchers will work with members of the METREX network to develop energy scenarios to 2050 in the EUCO2 project.

Project dissemination: On 23rd February, an international ENMaR conference was held in city centre Manchester. 80 people attended, including 24 international visitors. The conference showcased projects and case studies from ENMaR region within the five European countries that form the ENMaR network (Germany, Latvia, Spain, Sweden and England). The projects featured during the conference are focusing on water, tourism, agriculture, forestry and spatial planning.

New Project - City Green – This project concerns a software programme to quantify the benefits of green infrastructure.

New Project – EPSRC confirms funding of the Sustainable Cities: Options for Responding to Climate cHange Impacts and Outcomes (SCORCHIO) project, led by Geoff Levermore with input from Sarah Lindley and John Handley. SCORCHIO will build on the findings from ASCCUE and will develop tools that use updated climate change forecasts to help planners, designers, engineers and users to adapt urban areas, with a particular emphasis on heat and human comfort
New Project – EU PLURELproject is funded which will research sustainability and the urban fringe.

Project completion – Sarah Lindley completes BKCC Data Management project. Results and report are hosted on the Sustaining Knowledge for a Changing Climate website
Project completion – Jo Tippett completes the Joining-up participation in environmental planning - developing a learning resource for capacity-building project
