Welcome to COD

Cod home page

The Centre for Organisations in Development (COD) is a interdisciplinary centre within the University of Manchester. Members of COD research organisational and management issues within the context of international development. COD’s mission and activities assert that organisations are involved in the implementation of every development intervention. Yet, traditionally, researchers and development practitioners have, in the main, tended to neglect the role of organisations in the development process. Therefore:

  • COD exists to research the role, effectiveness and impact of organisations in the initiation and implementation of development policies and interventions.
  • COD provides knowledge and skills to development practitioners through the dissemination of its research
  • COD produces original research on the role, effectiveness and impact of development organisations in the initiation and implementation of development policies and interventions
  • COD work in partnership with other research centres within and outside the University of Manchester to research, advise and inform policy makers on the role of individuals, organisations and institutions in the development process.
