BWPI/IDPM Poverty and Development Masters Bursaries 2011

The Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI) is pleased to announce that it will be awarding five £3,000 bursaries for students to study on the MSc Poverty and Development programme within the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM)

The awards are open to Home and International fee paying students. Bursaries are paid directly to students in three installments. The instalments are paid at the begining of each term (Sept, Jan and April). Continuation of the awards is subject to satisfactory progress on the Master's programme.

Eligibility for the award is as follows:

1. Applicants must hold or achieve a UK second class honours, upper division or above, or its International equivalent, in their Bachelor's degree.

2. Applicants whose first language is not English should meet the following language requirements:

3. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover the remaining tuition fee and living costs for the duration of the programme. The University's guide to the estimated cost of a Master's programme can be viewed at the following link: Cost of living guide.

Application process

Applicants should submit the following documents by email to Paul Arrowsmith, Recruitment and Admissions Administrator, School of Environment and Development; Paul.Arrowsmith@manchester.ac.uk

  1. 500 word personal statement outlining any professional or personal experience relevant to the programme of study. Applicants should outline their reasons for wishing to study on the Masters programme and their future career aspirations.
  2. Details of how the tuition fee and living expenses will be covered for the duration of the programme. Applicants who are unable to provide this with their bursary application will not be considered for the award.

Applicants will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

The deadline for applications for the BWPI Master's Bursaries is Friday 1st July 2011.
