Where Does Development Success Come From? Explanations And Practical Implications
Anthony Bebbington and Willy McCourt
Abstract
In this paper we draw lessons from the seven cases that constitute the core of our edited collection, and whose main elements are summarized in Table 1. We discuss what they suggest about the nature and explanation of development policy success in terms of the framework which was developed in the first chapter of the edited collection, and with reference to broader debates in the literature. Our research strategy and choice of cases mean that our conclusions will be tentative ones. We open up avenues for further research at the same time that we close down our present enquiry. However, towards the end of paper we draw on the seven cases to produce an account of common features in development success which we label 'institutionalised energy': see Table 2.
