Dr David Lawson appointed to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Scientific Resource Group on Health Equity Analysis and Research

Dr David Lawson has been appointed to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Scientific Resource Group on Health Equity Analysis and Research.

The group of 15-20 professionals, selected on the basis of their knowledge and expertise on equity and health, will advise the WHO on the strategic directions, work plan content, objectives and priorities on equity and health - in particular those relating to measurement, monitoring, analysis and research. The group will also assist with identifying priorities and strategies relating to the WHO's programme of work and core activities.

Dr Lawson has considerable developing country experience, having advised developing country governments and donors, such as DFID, OECD and the World Bank, over the last two decades. His research interests are in development economics, but more specifically applied microeconometric analysis and poverty dynamics in relation to health and gender. He is the lead editor of 'What Works for The Poorest: Poverty Reduction Programmes for the Ultra Poor' (2010, Practical Action Publishing - with D. Hulme, I.Matin and K. Moore), and co-editor of 'Health and Development' (forthcoming, Palgrave).

David is also faculty associate at the Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI).
