Cartographic Unit

Services

Our services are available primarily to the Shool of Environment and Development staff and postgraduates.

Time in the Cartographic Unit can be booked (usually for a week or multiples thereof) upto three months in advance. This enables all staff to meet publishing deadlines, conference dates and teaching schedules. However, we are aware that there will always be work which cannot be planned in advance and we always retain a degree of flexibility within the schedule to accommodate those last-minute jobs. Our priority is always to get the work done in order to facilitate the smooth running of the teaching commitments and research activities of the School.

We are happy to provide advice and practical assistance regarding the preparation of maps, graphics, publications, slides and OHPs, publicity materials, displays, etc. to staff, postgraduates and undergraduates.

All work is backed-up and archived for future use.

Our range of work includes:

Colour and black-and-white maps and diagrams
Prepared to publication standard from author's originals, previously published material, data sets, field surveys, rough notes, or just ideas suitable for publication in books, journals and periodicals or for teaching and research purposes. The same type of material can also be produced as OHPs and slides in either black and white or colour for teaching and conference presentations. Alternatively, digital output of any graphic can be incorporated into a Powerpoint presentation.
