The Cartographic Unit is staffed by two cartographers who have each worked at the Universityl for nearly 30 years. While our background and training is in ‘traditional’ cartography, we have adapted to changes in technology and customer requirements to the extent that we can offer services beyond cartography.
The tools of the trade may have changed but the essential skills of cartographic presentation remain the same. We produce a wide variety of maps, diagrams, charts and other graphics from an equally varied range of sources - published maps or data, field surveys, rough notes or just ideas. These are used for publication in books, journals, working papers and reports. Recent examples include Global Shift (Edition 5) by Peter Dicken and Fundamentals of Geomorphology by Richard Huggett.
