What our students say (video)

The Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) offers you the training you need to become a fully qualified architect.

Qualifying as an architect usually requires seven years of study combined with professional experience, i.e. mix of degree courses, working in practice and professional exams.

This involves completing courses approved by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the professional body of architecture in the UK.

Our degree courses are validated by the RIBA and therefore provide exemption from the first two of the three stages you need to complete before becoming an architect.

BA (Hons) Architecture (RIBA Part 1 exemption)

The 3-year BA (Hons) in Architecture gives you a thorough insight into how architects work. It will prepare you for your year out in an architectural practice, which you must do before you continue on to your Bachelor of Architecture (BArch). It can also be taken as a standalone course, providing you with relevant, creative skills into the workplace. For more information on the course please visit:

BArch (RIBA Part 2 Exemption)

This two-year full-time course is a graduate degree for those who have completed the BA (Hons) Architecture course and a subsequent year in practice. The course satisfies the ARB/RIBA Criteria for Approval and thus provides exemption from their Part 2 examination. Full qualification as an architect then comes after a further year of practical experience, and successfully sitting the Examination in Professional Practice.
