Professor Noel Castree Made an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences

SED is pleased to announce that the UK Academy of Social Sciences has conferred the Academician Award to Professor Noel Castree.

The Academy of Social Sciences is the voice of the social sciences in the UK for the public benefit. It is composed of over 700 Individual Academicians and 40 Learned Societies.

Academicians are distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors. Recently the Academy has been leading the Campaign for Social Science in the face of the significant funding and governance reforms to higher education being enacted by the Liberal-Conservative government.

Professor Castree's election to the Academy is based primarily on his research and teaching devoted to bringing the social sciences into critical engagement with the biophysical sciences.

Professor Castree is Research Director in SED, the managing editor of the journal Progress in Human Geography, and a member of the REF sub-panel for Geography, Environmental Studies and Archaeology.
