Professor of Global Urbanism

You will have specialist interests in poverty, inequality and exclusion in cities of the global South.  Through this appointment SED seeks to advance its already strong reputation for developing new understandings of the processes of urbanism in the global South and identify practical means for intervening in / re-shaping these processes so that they contribute to human welfare and social justice.

You should be experienced in cross-disciplinary research and may come from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds (anthropology, architecture, development studies, economics, geography, planning, politics, sociology, urban studies etc).

Professor of Urban Studies

You will contribute to research and teaching in urban studies, primarily based in the Planning discipline, but also connecting to urban researchers across the School and Faculty.  You are expected to make a central contribution to research leadership both in Planning and across the School, as well as contribute high quality teaching.

One of the key aspirations for this post is that it will help us to further Manchester’s reputation for innovative, high quality research on cities.  We welcome candidates from any disciplinary background to build on and further develop key areas of research and teaching on Cities within Planning and create stronger linkages across the School.

Lecturer in Human Resource Management / HR Development & International Development

You will contribute to research and teaching on the management of organisations, policies, programmes and/or projects in the context of developing countries and international development.

Duties will include teaching on courses around the themes of Human Resource Practice, Human Resource Development and Strategy, Training and Development, and broad areas of management skills and practice in the development context, acting as Director of an MSc programme in the MGD cluster and undertaking high quality research on management, governance and development.  Candidates with expertise in human resource management and human resource development and with research interests in international development are particularly encouraged to apply.

This lectureship is for a period of three years from 1 April 2012.

Lecturer (Teaching-Focused) in Environmental Planning

The Lectureship is covering a maternity leave and is available from 1 March 2012 or soon as possible thereafter.  You will contribute to teaching within the Planning discipline in the School of Environment and Development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in the field of environmental planning.  The University is also willing to consider making this appointment on a half-time job-share basis (2 x 0.5FTE).  If you wish to be considered on this basis, please indicate this in your application.

You will be expected to contribute to the teaching and assessment of a range of existing modules such as Environment and Society, Planning for Environmental Change, Environmental Impact Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment and related practical and project work in the environmental planning field. You will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate (masters) dissertations and undertake a range of other administrative and pastoral duties associated with a lecturer post. As a teaching-focussed lectureship, there is no explicit research obligation. However, there will be opportunities alongside the teaching and administrative duties to undertake research and engage in ongoing research activities within the discipline and, where appropriate, its research centres and the wider School.

Lecturer (Teaching-Focused) in Geography (Reference :HUM-00686)

We are looking to appoint an outstanding individual who will contribute to and enhance our current teaching programme.  We particularly welcome applications from individualswith experience in research-led teaching and skills and employability training.  You will have expertise in a geographic field and/or an interest in pedagogic research and will be expected to teach and undertake scholarly activity.  In addition to the normal academic tasks of teaching and examining at all levels and participating in fieldwork, you will have responsibility for the development, implementation and ongoing coordination of the recently enhanced employability stream within the Geography undergraduate curriculum.
